Cal. 8mm. S# 3796. Bbl. 26 1/4". Standard 08/15 sights. Matching numbers on lower, top cover, backplate, trigger guard, fusee spring cover, rear sight leaf, front sight & top cover latch. Lock assembly lacks German acceptance stamps & appears to be from a diff model Maxim. Charging handle, lock parts & feed tray parts are mismatched. Butt stock & jacket appear unnumbered. Desirable 1917 JP Sauer made 08-15 Maxim machine gun. JP Sauer made an estimated 11,000 08-15's making them a hard to find mfr. Steam port cover is missing. Underside of receiver marked "RWD SALEM, VA" from rewat. NFA paperwork lists "GERMAN GOVT WW1" as maker. Blued finish. Beech stock & checkered grip panels. Correct bipod & muzzle booster present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: unmarked armorers kit that appears mostly complete, belt loader with crate, oil bottle & unmarked wooden ammo can. CONDITION: furniture shows a chip behind top cover, a few thin drying cracks, gouges, scattered dings & handling marks. Feed block assembly shows a couple large weld repairs & has an old piece of wood inside. Top of rear of bbl. appears to have an old brazed repair behind jacket likely from rewat. Balance of metal retains perhaps 30% original blue with overall fading, some shallow dents mostly on jacket & fusee cover, some pitting on booster, scattered oxidation, edge wear, handling marks. Belt loader box lid is broken off. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Very good plus bright bore with strong rifling. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH.
